Welcome to Canvas Quest Art! We are a small, highly nostalgic group of retro gaming fans who create different types of artwork from our favorite games growing up!
The Canvas Quest story begins with a passionate nostalgia for old video games… and simply as a way for me to decorate my apartment. I have always loved retro-gaming artwork in any form, whether it be the original boxes I’d see on the shelf of local game stores as a kid, or the pixelated 8-bit and 16-bit graphics that took over my screen nearly everyday of my childhood. It’s a great way of transporting back to those easier care-free times growing up, bringing back a lot of nice memories, without having to do much other than admire the art. Just seeing those images hanging on my wall for a few seconds a day can bring back those simpler times almost instantly-- that kind of stuff sticks with you, and for me, just makes the rest of the day a little more grounded, playful and carefree.
As a way of displaying art, canvas has always been my go-to. It transforms what would normally be a normal looking poster, into a piece of art with a painting like quality to it-- you can see and feel the texture of a canvas, and the material really helps to compliment the colors and depth of the artwork. It also allows the the art pieces to extend and wraparound to the sides of the frame, which adds a little more of a unique spin to the more traditional framed piece of art or poster. I had decided early on that it might be neat to incorporate those canvas sides as part of the final piece of art. It would allow me to recreate, say one of my favorite NES game boxes, and show the side label that each original box would have. The closer I could get to the original box feel, the better it was for me. It was like having an over-sized version of the box art hanging on my wall.
My fascination with retro gaming art on canvas evolved from making gifts for myself, to making gifts for friends--- to eventually making them available for others to purchase and enjoy themselves. We’ve been making canvases for 5 years and still enjoy every minute of the process. Nothing beats going to a show and talking retro games with others that are attending. I know first hand the place these pictures of our past bring us and how much joy even a few moments of looking at it can provide-- to be able to share in that means a lot.
In the last year we’ve explored and expanded our art options a bit by offering enamel pins of some of our favorite video game characters and enamel magnets on canvas backgrounds---think of it as a modern day Colorforms where the magnet pins can be positioned and moved around where ever you want them on a canvas landscape. We’ve also been adding LED lights and music chips to our artwork as well-- the more senses we can tickle to recreate that old school gaming feeling, the more enjoyable the experience I think the art can provide.
I hope you enjoy what we have to offer. We are constantly rotating and adding new items so check back often-- or if there is something you’d like and don’t see, drop us a message! We don’t list all of our stock so we very well may have something you are looking for.
